UNMH Checklist for (Self Pay Discount Program only)
If you aren’t eligible for financial assistance for care at UNM Hospital, you can take advantage of our self-pay discount. This program can reduce hospital and physician charges by 45 percent if you live in Bernalillo County and meet program guidelines. If you live in another New Mexico county, you may qualify depending on the medical services you need.
You’ll be eligible to receive all the services your doctor recommends if you meet criteria for the discount.
How Do I Qualify?
Call 505-272-2521 to meet with a Patient Financial Services staffer to discuss the self-pay discount. Bring the following to your appointment:
- Proof of residency, such as a utility bill, rental agreement or mortgage statement in your name.
- Proof of income, e.g., check stub or income tax returns.
- Most recent bank statement, if you have a bank account.
What is My Cost?
At the time you receive medical care, you’ll be asked to make a down payment that depends on your income level and family size. A down payment for a clinic visit will range from $5 to $50. You’ll learn more when you’re approved for the program.
Understanding Your Bills
When you receive medical services at any of the UNM Hospitals facilities, you’ll get two bills: one from UNM Hospitals and one from UNM Medical Group, Inc. (the physicians). Call 505-272-2521 to arrange payment for the hospital bill. To make a payment plan for UNM Medical Group charges, call the number on your bill.If you get care at the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center, expect to receive a third bill with a number you can call to make payment arrangements.
