11/7:  SmartPhone and Mobile Technology Brown Bag: The Learning Design Center is pleased to announce a Brown Bag presentation on SmartPhones and other mobile technology for UNM on November 15, 2006, 12:00 - 1:00 PM in the Health Sciences Library and Informatics Center Conference Room 228. This session will cover the present and future applications of the SmartPhones, including educational and research capabilities. Hear about other mobile technologies such as ultra mobile PC’s and how they will benefit HSC faculty, staff, and students. 9/18: HSLIC to Participate in Archives Week, October 15-21, 2006

In partnership with the New Mexico State Records Center and Archives (NMSRCA), the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Library and Informatics Center (HSLIC) and the Center for Southwest Research, UNM Libraries will host a noon-time lecture on the history of public health in New Mexico by Jake Spidle, Ph.D., UNM Professor of History as part of a statewide celebration for Archives Week. The lecture will be held Tuesday, October 17, 2006, 12:15 - 1:00 p.m., in the Health Sciences and Services Building - room 105. Interspersed within the lecture will be clips of historic NM Department of Health films from the 1930's. These films are part of the NMSRCA holdings and illustrate the challenges New Mexico has faced in the areas of public and environmental health.

Utilizing its New Mexico Health Historical Collection and in conjunction with the lecture, HSLIC will open a new exhibit on the history of public and environmental health in New Mexico - selected stories. The exhibit will open Monday, October 16, 2006, and run through the Friday, April 27, 2007. A reception for the exhibit will be held directly following the above mentioned lecture on Tuesday, October 17, 2006, 1:00 - 2:00 p.m., in the New Mexico Health Historical Collection room (HSLIC - 223). Exhibit hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays, 12:00 - 5:00 p.m., or by appointment.
