HSLIC Remote Access for Preceptors and Volunteer Faculty
What is remote access?

The Health Sciences Library and Informatics Center (HSLIC) offers electronic resources that are restricted to computers with UNM IP addresses. To use these electronic resources off-campus with an Internet Service Provider (MSN, Comcast, etc.), you need to make your computer appear to be a UNM computer. Remote access allows this to occur.

What electronic resources are available?

Numerous online journals, books, and databases are available.

What does a Preceptor need to use remote access?

An HSC NetID is required for obtaining remote access to Library resources.

When you click on a restricted resource from off campus you will be prompted for your HSC NetID

Enter your HSC NetID username and password and you will be able to access that resource.

How do I get an HSC NetID?

When you become a Preceptor, you can request a NetID from your sponsoring department. To do this, they will require your Social Security Number; HSC NetIDs cannot be issued without it. Within 2 business days of the request your name will appear in the Novell eGuide directory.

How do I find out if I have an HSC NetID?

Check the Novell eGuide directory (http://unmhsc.unm.edu/eGuide/servlet/eGuide).  Enter your last name and choose the search button.

If you are listed in the directory, your name will appear with your title, department affiliation, and your HSC NetID.

If you do not recall your password, or if it has been changed, you will need to establish a new one. Your password will be reset for you on presentation of a clear and legible photo ID. You can provide this either via fax (2-8893) or in person at the Technology Support Desk located to the right of the main entrance to the Health Sciences Library and Informatics Center. If you choose to fax the ID over, please make a light copy of it prior to faxing as the process tends to darken photos. The password will not be reset until a legible ID image is presented.

You can change your password on this site: http://pw.health.unm.edu/.  If you loose your password you must contact the Health Sciences Center Help Desk by email at helpdesk@salud.unm.edu or by phone at 505-272-1964.

What if I am not listed in the directory?

Contact your sponsoring school or college. They will request an account on your behalf. Please note that requests must go from your sponsoring school or college to the HSC NetID Account Manager. The HSLIC does not create NetID accounts.
