The New Mexico
Health Historical Collection
is a unique collection which documents the history of health and healthcare
for New Mexico. As such, it plays a critical role in preserving and making
available these historically important and irreplaceable materials. This is
both a great responsibility and an incredible opportunity to share with the
greater community our state's rich and diverse history.
The Collection encompasses the following special programs:
Oral History Program
Peggy McBride , HSLIC Archivist, shows a library patron one the the
books from the Historical Collection.
Over 175 interviews with the most senior and longest-practicing medical
professionals in the state.
Other collection resources
Photographs, rare books, artifacts, New Mexico/Southwest books and
reports, personal papers of health professionals, and materials on
hospitals, sanitoria, and health organizations.
Preserving our heritage; sharing it online
The Health Historical Collection gives us an opportunity to preserve our
heritage and honor those men and women who were pioneers in bringing health
care to the people of our state.
Your donation will:
- Scan and digitize - Help cover the costs of scanning
and digitizing the Collection so it will be available online.
- Open the Collection to all - Allow everyone with an
interest in the history of health care in New Mexico to be able to enjoy
these wonderful materials online.
