Open Access Databases

ABLEDATA -- A federally funded database that provides information on assistive technology and rehabilitation equipment.
Assistive Technology Literature -- A searchable database of articles books papers, and publications on the topic of assistive technology.
CIRRIE (Center for International Rehabilitation Research Information and Exchange) -- An international database from 1990-present containing information on published research conducted outside the United States. For research conducted inside the United States, select REHABDATA listed below.
National Center on Physical Activity and Disability -- The mission of the National Center on Physical Activity and Disability (NCPAD) is to promote substantial health benefits that can be gained from participating in regular physical activity. The slogan of NCPAD is Exercise is for EVERY body, and every person can gain some health benefit from being more physically active. This site provides information and resources that can enable people with disabilities to become as physically active as they choose to be.
National Limb Loss Information Center
The Center encompasses three major project areas:

  • Operation of a national clearinghouse to disseminate educational materials and self-help
  • Provide outreach to groups and agencies to collaborate in the development of peer training and related education programs including youth and people experiencing recent amputation
  • Development and dissemination of national consumer publications and newsletters

MedlinePlus -- Consumer health information – has excellent online tutorials for patients to learn more about a disease or procedure. Free.
Occupational Therapy Critically Appraised Topics (OTCATS) -- A database of brief evidence summaries on occupational therapy interventions.
OTSeeker -- OT seeker is a database that contains abstracts of systematic reviews and randomized controlled trials relevant to occupational therapy. Trials have been critically appraised and rated to assist you to evaluate their validity and interpretability. These ratings will help you to judge the quality and usefulness of trials for informing clinical interventions. In one database, OTseeker provides you with fast and easy access to trials from a wide range of sources.
PEDRO -- Physiotherapy evidence database
PsycBITE (Psychological Database for Brain Impairment Treatment Efficacy) -- A research database of cognitive, behavioral, and other treatments for psychological problems and issues resulting from acquired brain impairment. It contains systematic reviews, RCTs, non-randomized controlled trails, case series, and single subject design studies. The studies are rated for their methodological quality.
REHABDATA -- The REHABDATA database spans almost 50 years of disability and rehabilitation research. Most contain abstracts.
