In 2007, the results of a UNM audit found that a more secure password self-management system with password expiration was required. The UNM auditors mandated a change and an identity task force met, resulting in Challenge Response and the Password Reset requirement. Each NetID (UNM and HSC, and including UNMH)password now expires and has to be changed every 180 days (approx. six months). The UNM standard can be downloaded here.
At the mypw page, select Password Challenge Response from the left side of the page. Answer the questions on the screen and click on submit. A confirmation will appear that the Challenge Responses were saved successfully. Do not click on submit again, you have completed the task and can leave the page. If you forget your password, you can return to the mypw page and Click Forgot Password. Answer the questions you previously set up and you can then change your password without contacting the helpdesk.
On January 4, 2009, we began tracking the password changes for all HSC accounts. Each password was be given and expiration date of 180 days from the date you last changed your password. You will be required to change your password every 180 days.
When you change your password at the mypw page, this will change your email (salud.unm.edu)
password as well.
Please do not change your password in any other way as it may cause your password to not
synchronize or fail.
