The Office of Professional Responsibility endeavors to act as a liaison between UNM’s Department of Pediatrics and healthcare providers throughout the state of New Mexico and surrounding states by providing timely and accurate patient update information to healthcare professionals who refer their patients to Children’s Hospital/Department of Pediatrics.  The Office also strives to provide quality outreach education programs for healthcare providers throughout New Mexico thereby collaboratively working with healthcare providers to continually improve the quality and availability of healthcare for the children of New Mexico.

Significant Achievements FY 99/00

  • The Office of Professional Responsibility is finalizing the conversion of its existing database to a format which will provide accessible, updated, accurate contact information on all healthcare professionals that refer patients to Children's Hospital and the Department of Pediatrics.

  • A dedicated multi-disciplinary Pediatric Outreach Education Program was transitioned within the Office of Professional Responsibility, and the Neonatology Outreach Education Program returned to the Neonatology Division.

  • Completed a total of twenty-four multidisciplinary Pediatric Outreach Education Programs, including eight Telemedicine broadcasts.  These were provided in eleven New Mexico communities, and reaching over 200 health professionals.

  • Produce and distribute an Office of Professional Responsibility brochure describing the services provided to both UNM faculty and other New Mexico physicians as a liaison between the community and UNM Department of Pediatrics.

  • Compile and maintain a list of educational presentations available through the Pediatric Outreach Education Program, which will be distributed with the Office's brochure.

  • Expand the use of Telemedicine to reach rural areas of New Mexico with cost effective outreach education presentations.

  • Update the Office of Professional Responsibility display booth with current subspecialty's information, updated photographs and handouts to be displayed at Pediatric Conferences throughout New Mexico.
