The Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (CHPDP) conducts
prevention research and provides a model for developing, implementing and
evaluating culturally appropriate health promotion and public health
surveillance activities. CHPDP includes the following research and
outreach projects designed to promote healthy lifestyle, focusing on American
Indian Communities; Center for Health Promotion in American Indian Communities;
Youth Tobacco Study (CDC); Pathways: Prevention of Obesity Among Navajo
Youth (NIH/NHLBI); School-based Health Centers (IHS); HealthWise: A
Bulletin for School Health (NMDOH); health education materials development;
technical assistance and training related to American Indian health issues and
research opportunities for UNM students.
