The University of New Mexico Division of Neonatology offers a fellowship program for those interested in pursuing an academic career in Perinatal-Neonatal medicine. The Program requires a three year commitment consisting of an active clinical service and providing considerable opportunity for bench research or clinical research. The basic philosophy of the program is that the fellowship is primarily an educational and research experience. Fellows are expected to participate in the following:

Educational and Research Requirements

Year 1:

Basic courses in statistics, bioethics, and fetal assessment. Fellows are also encouraged to attend classes in physiology, biochemistry, and molectular biology. By the latter part of the first year, with the help of a Mentor, a fellow is expected to have initiated a research project and to have identified a focus of research.

Year 2:

By the end of the second year, it is expected that the research project will have been submitted as an abstract for presentation and that a manuscript will be in draft form.

Year 3:

Expectations of the third year include formulation of a manuscript and, when appropriate, submission of a research training grant.
