SPECIALIZED RESIDENCY IN
GERIATRIC PHARMACY

 

Objectives, Requirements and Benefits

Program Objectives

Upon completion of the residency program in cardiovascular pharmacotherapy the resident shall be able to:

  1. Design, recommend, monitor, evaluate and document patient-specific pharmacotherapy for geriatric patients in ambulatory, inpatient, and hospice settings.

  2. Appreciate the need to adapt pharmaceutical care plans to meet the emotional and cultural needs and expectations of geriatric patients.

  3. Provide clear, concise, applicable, and timely responses to requests for drug information from geriatric patients and their health care providers via verbal and written communication.

  4. Design and execute investigations of issues related to geriatric pharmacy practice.

  5. Understand the major principles of gerontology and geriatrics.

  6. Provide instruction to pharmacy technicians, pharmacy students, pharmacy residents, pharmacists or other healthcare providers, students or residents via in-services or formal lectures.

Qualifications of Residency Applicants

The applicant must possess a Pharm.D. degree from an ACPE-accredited college or school of pharmacy and must be eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in the State of New Mexico. The completion of a pharmacy practice residency program is preferred. Selected applicants will be required to visit the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center for an on-site interview.

Resident Stipend

  • Approximately $36,000 annually plus benefits*.

  • *Benefits include annual leave, sick leave and insurance.

Vacation/Holidays

Five working days in addition to the 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year and Memorial Day.

Professional Leave

Resident will be allowed to attend a professional meeting paid by the College of Pharmacy.

Health Insurance

Health insurance is provided.

Period of Appointment

July 1, 2008 thru June 30, 2009.
