SPECIALIZED RESIDENCY IN
GERIATRIC PHARMACY

Responsibilities

In general, the resident will be responsible for assisting the preceptors in the provision of clinical pharmacy services to geriatric patients in a variety of care settings. This will consist of inpatient service, outpatient clinic service, and hospice care. Clinical experience will be gained through rotations with the Inpatient Internal Medicine Service, Geriatric Primary Care Pharmacy Clinic (GPCPC) and home-based hospice care. Time spent in the GPCPC is continuous, one-half day per week, throughout the year. The continuous involvement in the clinic throughout the year is an excellent opportunity for the resident to develop meaningful relationships with patients and other health care providers. The resident participates in interdisciplinary teams in most practice areas. The resident will gain training towards potential licensure as a pharmacist clinician in New Mexico.

The resident will have both didactic as well as experiential teaching opportunities. In addition, the resident will be expected to participate in ongoing clinical research projects as well as the New Mexico Residents’ and Fellows’ Journal Club.
