Miranda Cajero
is Native American from Walatowa-Pueblo of Jemez, where she lives today. She
graduated from Del Norte High School in Albuquerque and received a Bachelor's of
Community Health with an emphasis in Environmental Management at New Mexico
State University.
Miranda has always had an interest in health and
environmental sciences, especially related to people's health at work, home and
play. With that in mind, she has continued her education. She received a
certificate as a GIS Analyst, which means she knows how to create maps using
geospatial data. Once plotted, these maps allow health professionals and
communities to study people's homes in relation to the nearest rivers, lakes,
mining locations and other potential sources of environmental concern.
As a Health Sciences Research Specialist for the Community
Environmental Health Program at the University of New Mexico's College of
Pharmacy, Miranda also develops and maintains databases.
She oversees data input, performs quality assurance and
checks and analyzes data.
Miranda is a co-founder of Native American Youth Empowerment.
She volunteers her time working with native youth, building leadership skills
and mentoring students to become well-rounded, educated individuals who are
committed to sustaining their cultural values, traditions and beliefs.
