PEPPOR Dissertation Receives APhA Clinical Research Paper of The Year!

Congratulations to Dr. Bijal Shah, graduate of the UNM COP Pharmacoeconomic Epidemiology and Pharmaceutical Policy Outcomes Research Graduate Program (PEPPOR).  The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) has selected for its prestigious Clinical Research Paper of the Year Award, the article, “Depressive symptoms in patients with type 2 diabetes in the ambulatory care setting: Opportunities to improve outcomes in the course of routine care.” J Am Pharm Assoc. 2008;48:737–743.  This article was a product of the work generated by Dr. Shah's PEPPOR doctoral dissertation here at the COP.  The award will be presented to Dr. Shah and her co-authors at the 20-11 APhA Annual Meeting in Seattle during the second general session.  Established in 2006, the award is intended to promote and encourage high quality clinical research or practice-based research in the clinical sciences by recognizing an original research article in this area which has been published in the JAPhA (Journal of the American Pharmacists Association).

About Bijal Shah, PhD

Education: Bijal is a former graduate student in the Ph.D. program in Pharmacy Administration at the University of New Mexico, College of Pharmacy. She received her Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Sciences degree (B. Pharm) from Mumbai University, India in June 2000.

Doctoral Dissertation Titles: "Stress, Coping and Social Support in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes." 2005. Committee Co-chairs: Gireesh Gupchup, PhD, Matthew Borrego, PhD

Current Position: Bijal is currently an Assistant Professor at the Social and Administrative Sciences College of Pharmacy in Touro University in California.
