Residency Objectives
Provide quality patient care through collaborative working relationships with other health care providers.
Participate in the design, recommendation, monitoring, and evaluation of patient-specific treatment regimens.
Participate in the documentation of pharmacist patient care activities.
Provide concise, comprehensive, applicable, and timely responses to drug information requests.
Provide effective education to health care professionals, patients and Doctor of Pharmacy candidates.
Demonstrate professionalism, leadership skills, responsibility, and ethical conduct during all residency activities.
Participate in the UNMH/HSC Continuous Quality Improvement through an understanding of the identification and management of adverse medication events, an understanding of drug policy development, and completion of a mediciation use evaluation.
Residency Requirements
Required rotations: Orientation, Internal Medicine, Pharmacy Administration, Emergency Medicine, Research, Critical Care (Adult and/or Pediatric), Pharmacy Practice Continuity Clinic.
At least 4 elective rotations: Oncology (Adult and/or Pediatric), Nephrology, Psychiatry, Cardiology, Infectious Diseases, Pulmonary.
Completion of a residency project designed to improve clinical pharmacy services and achieve a specific research objective.
Completion of a medication use evaluation.
Prepare a manuscript ready for publication.
Present at the Western States Residency conference.
Develop general pharmacy skills through 2 shifts/month of work in various pharmacy settings within the UNMH pharmacy department.
Opportunities to provide lectures to Doctor of Pharmacy candidates are available at the UNM College of Pharmacy.
Candidate Qualifications
Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE-accredited college or school or pharmacy.
Eligible for pharmacist licensure in the State of New Mexico.
