Specialized Residency in Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy

Responsibilities

In general, the resident will be responsible for assisting the preceptors in the provision of clinical pharmacy services to adult cardiology patient care settings. This will consist of inpatient service and outpatient clinic service. Clinical experience will be gained through rotations with the Inpatient Cardiology Service, Heart Failure Clinic and Heart Protection Clinic (HPC). Time spent in the HPC is continuous, one-half day per week, throughout the year. The continuous involvement in the clinic throughout the year is an excellent opportunity for the resident to develop meaningful relationships with patients and other health care providers. The resident will gain ACLS certification and will also coordinate and participate in community cardiovascular risk screenings.

The resident will have both didactic as well as experiential teaching opportunities. In addition, the resident will be expected to design and complete a clinical research project and participate in the New Mexico Residents’ and Fellows’ Journal Club.
