Endowment Opportunities

Your gift to the College of Pharmacy can reach far beyond your own lifetime.

An endowment is a gift that lasts forever; the principal is invested and only income from the fund is spent for the purpose you designate. A portion of the income is added to the principal to ensure that the fund keeps pace with inflation. You can establish an endowment by an outright gift, through a pledge or commitment over time, or through a deferred gift. The Director of Development will help you determine how the fund income will be used, assuring that your wishes will be honored in perpetuity.

Deferred giving (sometimes called planned giving) is a term for a variety of financial vehicles that benefit both you and the College of Pharmacy, offering creative solutions to financial challenges while helping achieve your specific charitable goals. Some of the most popular forms of deferred giving are:

  • Bequests

  • Charitable Trusts

  • Charitable Gift Annuities

  • Retirement Accounts

  • Life Insurance Policies

Endowed Doctor of Pharmacy Scholarships

Endowed funds for financial assistance which offer partial tuition support may be established with gifts of $15,000 or more.

Endowed funds for financial assistance which offer full tuition, for a New Mexico resident, may be established with gifts of $81,000 or more.

Securing additional endowment scholarship support for students is among the highest priorities of the College. The cost to educate our third- and fourth- year doctor of pharmacy students, including tuition and fees, books, supplies, and living expenses, is now approximately $12,000 per year for New Mexico residents and almost $24,000 per year for out-of-state students.

Endowment for Graduate Student Support

Tuition and stipend for our graduate students currently exceeds $15,000 for a starting M.S. student and $18,000 for a Ph.D. student annually

Endowed Graduate Fellowships

Endowed graduate student fellowships, which provide partial tuition and stipend, may be established with gifts of $200,000 or more.

Endowment for Faculty Support

Endowed faculty position are vital to the College's ability to attract and retain faculty for research and teaching and enable them to focus on the discovery of scientific solutions to problems in drug therapy and design; and, pharmacoeconomics, and quality of life issues.

Endowed faculty endowments may be established with gifts:

  • Endowed Chair may be established with gifts of $2,500,000 or more.

  • Endowed Professorship may be established with gifts of $500,000 or more.

  • Endowed Faculty Development Award may be established with gifts of $250,000 or more.

Other important faculty positions, including Associate or Assistant Professorships, Lectureships and Visiting Professorships, may be endowed with gifts of $200,000 or more.

Endowed and Expendable Research Funds

The advancement of scientific knowledge through research plays an integral part in preparing students for careers in pharmacy. Indeed, students working closely with faculty of the College have an active role in developing new drugs, drug delivery systems, clinical drug therapy, and pharmacy and health care systems.

To ensure that present and future scholars can continue the College's distinguished tradition of excellence in pharmaceutical research, the College seeks additional funds for research. Such funding will support novel research and preliminary investigations that hold the promise of new discoveries and will attract funding from sources outside the University. Gifts of $10,000 or more would help this effort.
