For the first year, the fellow performs pharmacoeconomic research in close collaboration with the preceptor.  During the second year, more independent research is performed; the second year fellow is involved with training and collaboration of the first year fellow.  Collaborations are also available with clinical research pharmacists, VA physicians, and clinical trials study chairmen, nationally.

Fellows are expected to present original research twice at national professional meetings; create two publications as first author in nationally-recognized, peer-reviewed journals; serve as a referee for nationally-recognized, peer-reviewed journals; and obtain funding for one research proposal.
