transcript: "Hello, this is Evan Christopher, New Orleans-based jazz clarinetist. In the events following Hurricane Katrina, five feet of putrid floodwater destroyed my home and its contents. Like you, I just wanna go home and clean up. But we must do it safely. Here’s some advice that can help.  First, watch out for physical hazards like nails, broken glass, and falling debris from roofs and ceilings.  Second, follow these tips to prevent other health problems. If you smell gas or chemicals, get out and call for help. You will likely encounter poisonous molds and contaminated debris, dust and dirt.  For cleanup, please cover yourself from head to toe with EPA regulated coverings and wear a good respirator mask. Bandanas and those little masks that don’t fit right won’t work!  If you have standing water or mud in your home or yard, wear water-proof boots and long gloves. Speaking of water, only drink bottled water for now. The water in your area may still have chemicals that are unsafe.  Finally, children, senior citizens and those with asthma are especially vulnerable. Don’t let them return until the toxic mold and dirt are out of the house."
