Since 1945, the University of New Mexico College of Pharmacy has been enrolling pharmacy students and since then, has granted more than 2,216 professional pharmacy degrees, including nearly 300 Pharm.D. degrees. To date, the UNM College of Pharmacy offers the only Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program in the State of New Mexico and holds the distinction of having one of the top 3 most culturally diverse student bodies in the nation.  iN 1975, the College moved to a new building on the University's north campus. For the first time, research space and equipment became available for the development of research programs within the College. The number of faculty increased from 6 to 22 FTEs which led to the development of a variety of research programs. In 1994, the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center (HSC) was created and the College of Pharmacy became an affiliate of HSC as did the College of Nursing, School of Medicine, and University health care facilities, all of which are ultimately overseen by the Vice President for Health Sciences.

The first UNM College of Pharmacy building was built in 1945 and was one of 35 buildings on UNM's main campus designed by famed architect, John Gaw Meem.
