How to Apply

ADMISSION PROCEDURES

Here are some specific requirements of the UNM COP’s application process:

1.         Complete and submit a PharmCAS application by February 1, 2009 (September 1, 2008 for Early Decision)

a.   Application fee is $135 to apply to one (1) school and
$30-40 for each additional school

b.   Please allow 3-6 hours to completely fill out application.

c.  The application does not have to be filled out in its entirety during one session. You may save your application and complete it at a later time.

d.  We recommend that you have copies of your transcripts (official or unofficial) from all schools attended while you complete the application.

e.   Arrange for official transcripts to be sent to PharmCAS from each school attended.

PharmCAS is a service of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy administered by Liaison International, Inc. This centralized service will allow applicants to use a single application and one set of official US and/or Canadian transcripts to apply to multiple Pharm.D. degree programs.

PharmCAS will collect and process applications to pharmacy colleges and schools that participate in this service (including UNM).  Applicants who apply through PharmCAS will submit a completed web-based application comprised of biographical data, post secondary institutions attended, academic course history, work experience, extracurricular activities, a personal statement, and official transcripts from all accredited US and Canadian institutions attended.

All applicants must use this service to apply to the UNM College of Pharmacy.  Applications received directly from applicants can not be considered.

2.         A supplemental application and fee ($50) is also required by the College of Pharmacy.

a.   The supplemental application deadline is also February 1, 2009 (September 1, 2008 for Early Decision)

b.   The supplemental application for the 2009 application cycle will be available in June, 2008.  

3.       Three (3) letters of recommendation are also required for consideration for admission to the College of Pharmacy

a.  Letters of recommendation are to be submitted directly to PharmCAS by your reference providers.

b.  Deadline for receipt of letters of recommendation is also February 1, 2009. (September 1, 2008 for Early Decision) 

4.     Send the supplemental application fee ($50.00), and photo together, to the College of Pharmacy at:

5.       Completed PCAT: www.PCATweb.info

6.        After receipt of a completed PharmCAS application, transcripts from all U.S. and Canadian postsecondary institutions attended, and correct PharmCAS fees; PharmCAS will forward all application materials to the UNM College of Pharmacy. 

7.         All application materials (PharmCAS application, supplemental application fee, letters of recommendation, PCAT score, and photo) will then be considered by the Admissions Committee. 

8.         Selected applicants will be offered interviews to take place at the College of Pharmacy. You must participate in invited interview to be considered for admittance to the College of Pharmacy. 

9.         If you are accepted to the Pharm.D. program a $200 deposit will be required to hold your position in the class. The $200 will be applied to your first semester tuition payment following matriculation into the College of Pharmacy. If you do not matriculate in the Fall of 2009, your deposit will be forfeited. 

  • RESIDENTS OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO ARE GIVEN PREFERENCE IN THE ADMISSION APPLICATION PROCESS 

  • WE ENCOURAGE STUDENTS TO APPLY EARLY.  

  • INTERVIEWS WILL BE OFFERED TO SELECTED APPLICANTS THROUGHOUT THE SPRING. TO BE CONSIDERED FOR AN INTERVIEW, APPLICANT FILES MUST BE COMPLETED BY THE APPLICATION DEADLINE OF FEBRUARY 1, 2009.

Important Information for Doctor of Pharmacy Applicants during the 2009 Application Cycle

All science (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics) prerequisites MUST BE COMPLETED BY THE END OF THE SPRING 2008 SEMESTER, and all other prerequisites MUST BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO MATRICULATION (end of summer 2009)


For Fall 2009 Applicants:  All Biology and Chemistry courses are REQUIRED to be completed within the last 7 years.  C- GRADES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

Biochemistry, while not required, is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED.

PCAT scores MUST BE REPORTED TO PharmCAS (code 104)
