APPE Director, Megan Thompson, PharmD, receives
New Generation Rx Award of Excellence Endowed by Cardinal Health Foundation
Dr. Megan Thompson received a high honor, being named the
first-ever national award winner for her prescription drug misuse and abuse
program from Cardinal Health. This award is the American Pharmacists
Association's (APhA) new Generation Rx Award of Excellence. The program,
developed by Dr. Thompson, includes working with schools throughout the
state by interacting with students and teachers to educate them about the
dangers associated with prescription drug misuse and abuse. Dr. Thompson
will receive the award at APhA's Annual Meeting and Exposition in New
Orleans, March 9-12.
Mary Vilay, PharmD, accepts AACP $10,000 New
Investigator Award Grant for dialysis research
Congratulations to Mary Vilay, PharmD for receiving the New
Investigator Award from AACP. Dr. Vilay's research titled,
"Trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole loss in modeled continuous renal replacement
therapy" will examine whether drug adsorption happens during Continuous
Replacement Renal Therapy (CRRT), a special type of dialysis used in the
intensive care unit. Vilay competed against professionals from pharmacy
schools across the country in pharmaceutical sciences and pharmacy practice.

Georgopoulos, PharmD, featured for clinical initiatives in Rio Rancho
Observer
Dr. Larry Georgopoulos shares current opportunities in hospital
pharmacy services. The article highlights the new Sandoval Regional Medical
Center, offering pharmacy services and medication therapy management
programs to help with on-site training for pharmacy students.
