Poison Control & Drug Information Research

 

Programmatic Research Goals and Objectives:

Improve the outcome of patient care associated with the undesirable effects of drugs and other products

  • Objective – to characterize groups of patients or individual patients at risk of experiencing undesirable effects

  • Objective – to optimize the exposure-specific treatment received by patients experiencing undesirable effects of drugs and other products

Improve the understanding of the hazards posed by exposure to drugs and other products

  • Objective – to identify the undesirable effects associated with new drugs and other products

  • Objective – to evaluate the relative hazards posed by drugs and other products used for similar purposes

Improve the systematic operation of poison and drug information centers

  • Objective – to develop, test and implement evidence-based protocols for the management of patients experiencing undesirable effects of drugs and other products

  • Objective – to develop, test and implement educational programs and other strategies to increase public awareness of, and reduce the public risk of experiencing, the undesirable effects of drugs and other products

  • Objective – to develop, test and implement improved methods of collecting, analyzing and communicating information regarding the undesirable effects of drugs and other products
