Research Interests

My research interests are generally in the area of immunopharmacology and immunotoxicology with emphasis on the effects of drugs and environmental agents (particularly polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, PAHS) on signaling pathways controlling lymphocyte activation and apoptosis. We also have research projects studying human breast cancer where we examine the control of normal human mammary cell proliferation and proto-oncogene activation by environmental agents and ethanol. Our lab has been investigating the role of PAHs and airborne particulates in asthma and collaborates on a U.S. Mexico Border Health project with the University of Texas at El Paso. We utilize genomics and epigenetics techniques in our research. We have extensive experience in preclinical and clinical evaluation of new biotechnology drugs, most notably cytokines, growth factors, adhesion molecules, and monoclonal antibodies.
