Pharmacology & Toxicology Research

The Pharmacology and Toxicology faculty maintain a multidisciplinary research program focusing on mechanistic studies related to health and disease at the cellular and molecular levels.

Goals and Objectives:

  • Expand our interdisciplinary program in drug discovery and preclinical evaluation

  • Promote the training and development of M.S., Ph.D., and post-Ph.D. scientists in pharmacology and toxicology

  • Offer outstanding research training opportunities to professional Pharm.D. students to attract them into areas of pharmaceutical research

  • Provide local, regional, and national expertise in the areas of pharmacology and toxicology to assist state and local agencies and enhance private industry and opportunities for economic development

Faculty

Scott Burchiel, Ph.D. – effects of environmental agents and drugs on the human immune system, environmental carcinogenesis of breast cancer; biotechnology

Matthew Campen, Ph.D. - cardiovascular health effects of inhaled toxicants

Pamela Hall, Ph.D. - immune system defense against invasive infection by S. aureus, particularly by CA-MRSA

Laurie Hudson, Ph.D. – regulation of epithelial plasticity in metastasis and wound repair, ovarian and skin cancer, mechanisms of arsenic carcinogenesis

Johnny Lewis, Ph.D. –  Community Environmental Health Program

Todd A. Thompson, Ph.D. - application of pharmacogenomic and toxicogenomic methods to assess chemopreventive and therapeutic strategies for cancer

Mary Walker, Ph.D. – function of cytochrome P4501A1 in cardiovascular physiology and pathology
