Immunization Mini-Grants for Local Coalitions and Projects

What is the Purpose of Mini-Grants?

The Immunization Mini-Grants are to support the development and enhancement of local immunization coalitions, to raise awareness, and to increase immunization rates through funding local events, educational projects, and promotional materials.

Who can apply?

  • Any local immunization coalition (developmental or established),
  • Any local Maternal and Child Health or other local health council that has immunization as a priority concern,
  • Any health care provider or other community group that would like to hold an immunization improvement activity

What Immunization activities/projects/purchases are allowable?

  • Coalition development (planning, facilitation, development)
  • Promotional or educational materials
  • Special events (facility costs, meals)
  • Educational events/speakers on Immunization
  • Conference/training costs
  • Specialized equipment

What Immunization activities/projects/purchases are NOT-allowable?

  • Salaries and wages
  • On-going operational costs
  • Gift certificates
  • Rent (ongoing)

How much money is available?

There is $20,000 available for this ’06-‘07 cycle of Immunization Mini-Grants. It is anticipated that awards will be between $500-$3,000 each. Applicants are asked to identify in-kind contributions or matching funds in support of each request.

What is the application process?

Applicants must submit the attached application form by the close of business (5 pm), October 16, 2009. Applicants must address each of the sections within the space provided and include a budget with justification. Electronic submission is encouraged. If funding exceeds requests, applications will be accepted after October 16th and evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Funds must be expended by June 15, 2010 or they will be carried forward to the next cycle of mini-grants. The next cycle will occur in August 2010.

How will applications be evaluated?

Applications will be evaluated on the responsiveness to the intent of this request for proposals. Applications should demonstrate how they will strengthen existing or develop new local immunization coalitions and/or demonstrate how they will improve immunization rates.

Scoring: Applications will be scored as follows:

  • Qualifications of applying coalition/agency: 20%
  • Demonstration of community engagement/partnerships: 20%
  • Proposed Activity Description/Project methods and relevance: 45%
  • Evaluation Plan: 10%
  • In-kind Contribution or Cash Match: 5%

When and how will awards be made?

Applications will be due by close of business, October 16, 2009. Review of applications and notification of awards will be made late early November 2009. Please keep in mind that purchases and payments will be made directly by the NMIC. Awardees will not receive funding directly, but rather, the NMIC will arrange payment for goods and services. Please consider this when determining dates for events and activities.
