Education:
Post-doctoral Training :
European Molecular Biology Lab, (1986-1991)
Ph.D. :
University of California, (1985)
B.S. :
University of Massachusetts, (1979)

Interests:
Exocytic and Endocytic Membrane Transport, Epithelial Cell Polarity, Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease

Two major areas of research:

  1. Defining the role of the rab7 GTPase and its effectors in endocytosis and cell growth control. Alterations in rab7 function are associated with neurologic disease and cancers.
  2. Defining the function of polycystins in the regulation of cell adhesion and polarity. Alterations in polycystin function are causal in autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease, a genetic disorder affecting 1:800 individuals.
