RIOS Net: Research Involving Outpatient Settings

From Idea to RIOS Net Project: How Research Projects are Chosen

So, you have an idea for a research project and want to share it with someone but are not a member of RIOS Net? The Research Involving Outpatient Settings will not turn you away merely due to lack of membership, but you will need to think through your project idea carefully before suggesting it to the network.

The process for finalizing a research project incorporates feedback from the larger network membership and leadership. Because of this, it may take 1-3 years from the suggestion of an idea to launching a project. How long depends on the complexity, support and funding of the project.

The main steps that need to happen from the idea of a project to the completion of the project are as follows:

  1. Project Idea - Is based on your observations and/or concerns in your community;
  2. Contacting RIOS Net- We encourage you to contact our office for assistance - (riosnet@salud.unm.edu);
  3. Submit Proposal Worksheet - Complete and submit worksheet to RIOS Net;
  4. Review of Proposal - RIOS Net members and leadership reviews proposal;
  5. Acceptance or Non-Acceptance - The board will announce it's decision;
  6. Identifying personnel - key project personnel need to be identified;
  7. Institutional Review Board Approval - Appropriate IRB approval is sought;
  8. Determining Funding - Funding for the proposed project needs to be identified;
  9. Data Collection - Upon acceptance, implementation of the project begins;
  10. Data Analysis - Data analysis begins once data collection has been completed;
  11. Presentation to RIOS Net Membership - Present findings at meeting.
