Overview
In 1964, the University of New Mexico School of Medicine became official and with its birth, the Department of Internal Medicine. The Department is relatively young, but over the years it has grown and is now comprised of over 176 faculty representing all the disciplines of Internal Medicine. The department's faculty are nationally and internationally known and its residency program attracts the nation's best. Located in Albuquerque, NM, the faculty, staff and residents provide patient care and research to a culturally rich and diverse population.

Mission Statement
The Department of Medicine will be the state of the art regional resource for Internal Medicine by demonstrating excellence and innovation in patient care, education and research. We will do this in a supportive environment which encourages open communication, respect for diversity and cooperative interaction among individuals.
