Since completing clinical training and coming to New Mexico in 1994, I have been blessed with many opportunities and the support of wonderful mentors and colleagues.  I’ve done a lot of work to develop clinical and educational programs in Addiction Psychiatry at UNM.  Recently I have devoted the majority of my effort to clinical research on the treatment of addictions.  My goals for the next 5 years are to deepen my own program of clinical research in addictions and co-occurring disorders, and to facilitate the development of trainees and junior faculty in addictions treatment and research, and to promote the further growth of clinical research in all areas of psychiatry at UNM.

This mid-career award supports the development of a new line of research involving co-administration of disulfiram and a benzodiazepine for individuals with alcohol dependence and co-occurring anxiety disorders.  Specific Aims also include new mentorship activities and acquisition of new methodological skills.
