How do I apply?
We accept applications only through ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service). Our application requirements are the same as the standard ERAS application: the application, CV, personal statement, Medical Student Performance Evaluation (Dean’s letter), transcript, and three letters of recommendation. We require Step 1 USMLE scores of all applicants. Step 2 may be completed after the deadline. Successful completion of Steps 1 & 2 is required prior to matriculation.
What is your application deadline?
Our application and supporting documentation deadline is November 1, 2008 (the day the Dean’s letters are released), but we suggest that you submit the other elements of your application before this deadline.
What tracks do you offer and how many positions?
Over all we typically offer a total of 6-8 residency positions a year. Each year we typically offer five positions in the Anesthesiology Categorical track (4 year program), which will begin with the PGY-1 transitional internship year. We have offered this transitional internship for over six years and it has been very successful and has done a great job of preparing residents for anesthesia. We also typically offer 2 positions in the Anesthesiology Advanced track (3 year program), which begins in PGY-2 with clinical anesthesia (CA-1) residency training. People who prefer a position in the 3-year program will do their clinical base year elsewhere. Please note: the clinical base year must meet the requirements of the ACGME and the American Board of Anesthesiologists.
On ERAS, you must apply to either the categorical or advanced track or to both tracks. For our purposes, that is not a binding commitment. If you are invited to interview, you will find out more about each track, and we will ask your preference (again, either or both tracks) before our match list is submitted.
Are there different requirements for international medical graduates?
No. We screen IMG’s by the same criteria as US medical graduates. We require some US clinical experience. We do not have a timeframe for graduation from medical school. We are more interested in what you have done in the time since graduating.
Applications are accepted only through ERAS. Visa support and visa class is determined on an individual basis.
