Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Okada has received a PhD in general areas of behavioral sciences, neurobiology and mathematics with a specialization in mathematical psychology from Rockefeller University, New York, NY, under the guidance of William K. Estes. He joined Neuromagnetism Laboratory of Sam Williamson and Lloyd Kaufman at NYU and carried out some pioneering studies in MEG. At NYU Medical Center, he started the Magnetophysiology Laboratory. He moved to UNM in 1989 as co-Director of Center for MEG. In 2001 he obtained a COBRE grant and founded BRaIN in 2006.

Yoshio Okada’s on-going research includes:
  1. identification of the brain network in the somatosensory cortices of the pig
  2. plasticity of the brain network with development and perinatal injury
  3. development of cortical current imaging algorithms
  4. identification of the generators of somatosensory evoked responses with in vivo and in vitro neocortical preparations
  5. study of normal human brain development, (6) plasticity in human brain in patients with cerebral palsy
  6. epilepsy in infants
  7. autism
  8. motion perception and locomotor control
  9. development of the second generation babySQUID for human brain development research
  10. development of a high-resolution inverted SQUID microscope
  11. development of applications of the microscope in biology.
