Cell Biology and Physiology
The Department of Cell Biology and Physiology is a basic science
department within the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. The
department was established in 1997 and focuses on the study of biological
structure, fundamental cellular and physiological processes and their
relationship to human development and disease. The
members of the departmental faculty come from a wide variety of academic
backgrounds that include clinical anatomy; biochemistry; biophysics;
molecular, cellular and developmental biology; and physiology. The formal
divisions within the department are the following:
- Cancer Cell Biology
- Vascular Biology/Physiology
- Medical and Graduate Education
The department consists of 12 faculty members with primary appointments
in the department and faculty with secondary or adjunct appointments from other basic science and clinical departments at the
University of New Mexico, from the nearby Lovelace Respiratory Research
Institute, and from the Los Alamos National Laboratory. About two dozen students and
postdoctoral fellows are currently carrying out their training within the
department.
