New Mexico Medical Reserve Corps

The Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) program in New Mexico is part of the national network of local groups of volunteers committed to improving the health, safety, and resiliency of their communities. The national MRC program is housed in the US Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the Surgeon General. The University of New Mexico, Center for Disaster Medicine, in partnership with the New Mexico Department of Health, manage the MRC program in New Mexico. The University of New Mexico Center for Disaster Medicine sponsors the Albuquerque University of New Mexico Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) Unit.

MRC units are community-based and function as a way to locally organize and utilize volunteers who want to donate their time and expertise to prepare for and respond to emergencies and promote healthy living throughout the year. MRC volunteers supplement existing emergency and public health resources. MRC volunteers include medical and public health professionals such as physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, veterinarians, and epidemiologists. Many community members, interpreters, chaplains, office workers, legal advisors, and others can fill key support positions. Everyone has something to bring to the table.

There are eight MRC units in New Mexico,  each with a unique service mission in their own communities:
