Southwest Center for Public Health Preparedness

 

The overall mission of the Southwest Center for Public Health Preparedness is to help prepare the public health workforce to respond to bioterrorism and emerging health threats by:

  • assessing the competency of the public health workforce in core public health skills and bioterrorism preparedness,
  • facilitating training to meet the assessed needs and
  • carrying out applied research on emerging health issues.

The University of New Mexico Center for Disaster Medicine is a program partner within the Southwest Center for Public Health Preparedness and offers courses and other professional opportunities for the public health workforce.


Service area for SWCPHP: Oklahoma, New Mexico, North Texas and Colorado

Each STAR represents one of 21 CDC-funded Centers representing 23 accredited schools of public health nationwide.
