Combined BA/MD Degree Program
We're Looking for the Top New Mexico High School Students for
Placement in the UNM School of Medicine.
Earn a Reserved Seat at the UNM School of Medicine
The Combined BA/MD Degree Program is designed to
help address the physician shortage in New Mexico by assembling a class
of students who are broadly diverse and committed to serving as
physicians in the New Mexico communities with the greatest need. This
partnership program between The University of New Mexico College of Arts
and Sciences and the School of Medicine is open to New Mexico high
school seniors planning to begin college the fall semester after their
graduation.
Students will first earn a baccalaureate degree
through the College of Arts & Sciences (A&S) in a challenging four-year
curriculum specifically designed to prepare them for medical school and
ultimately practicing medicine in New Mexico. Upon successfully
completing the undergraduate academic and eligibility requirements of the
program, students will then enter the School of Medicine (SOM) to complete
their doctor of medicine (M.D.) degree.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the Combined BA/MD Degree Program a student must:
- Be a current New Mexico high school senior, as well as all (high
school) seniors who are enrolled members of the Navajo Tribe who reside
on the Navajo Reservation.
- Have an ACT math sub-score of 22 or better; or SAT math
sub-score of 510 or better
(scores must be achieved prior to the
November 15 application deadline).
- Have a personal commitment to pursue a medical career in New
Mexico's rural or underserved areas.
