Combined BA/MD Degree Program
Admission and Application Requirements

Application eligibility for the Combined BA/MD Degree Program requires a
student must:
- Be a
New Mexico resident (at time of
application)
- Be a current New Mexico high
school senior (high school seniors outside NM who are enrolled members
of the Navajo Tribe and live in the Navajo Nation are also eligible).
- Have an ACT math sub-score of 22 or better; or a
SAT math sub-score of 510 or better. Scores must be achieved prior to
the November 15 application deadline. (SAT II subject test scores
are not accepted.)
- Have a personal commitment to pursue a medical
career in New Mexico's rural or underserved areas.
The Combined BA/MD Degree Program considers all aspects of
an applicant’s background, experience and academic progress including:
- Academic excellence (ACT, GPA, honors courses,
Advanced Placement courses)
- Community connection and involvement & volunteer
service
- Commitment to practice medicine in
New Mexico
- Honors and awards
- Extracurricular activities
- Letters of recommendation
- Personal statement
- Medically related experience (where
feasible/available)
Applicants with a Math ACT subscore of a 22 or a Math SAT subscore of a
510 will automatically be invited for two individual interviews with members
of the Admissions Committee.

Additional Points
Ø
Students
who are accepted into the BA/MD Degree Program with an ACT math score
between *22 - 25 (or SAT equivalent) will be required to attend a UNM
College Algebra class over the summer prior to beginning the BA/MD
curriculum in the fall.
Ø
Students who accept a position in the BA/MD
Program are required to attend UNM School of Medicine and may not apply to
any other medical schools.

Students accepting a position in the BA/MD Program will be required to sign
a Statement of Commitment.(View
