Division of Dental Hygiene

Dental Hygiene Clinical Instructors:

Temporary part-time clinical dental hygiene instructors on a need/as needed basis for our dental hygiene academic program. Assignments include clinical instruction and supervision of dental hygiene students. Requirements include: graduation from an accredited dental hygiene program or dental school, CPR certification, NM license, Bachelor's Degree in Dental Hygiene or Dental Degree. Student Clinic

The Division of Dental Hygiene offers a full range of preventive and therapeutic dental hygiene services including:

  • Comprehensive dental and periodontal examinations
  • Periodontal therapy available to those patients with varying degrees of periodontal diseases
  • Routine prophylaxis (dental cleanings) available to patients with health gum tissue.
  • Dental sealants
  • Professional fluoride treatments
  • Tooth desensitization services
  • Bleaching of teeth
  • Athletic Mouthguards
  • Nightguards
  • Fluoride Custom Trays
  • Dental radiographs
    • Bitewing x-rays
    • Full mouth x-rays
    • Panographic x-rays

Dental hygiene students are supervised by licensed dental hygiene faculty. Fees are greatly reduced from private offices and clinics and payment is dues at time of service. Medicaid insurance accepted.
Appointment days and times vary in spring and fall semester schedules. Patients should call the appointment desk to inquire about clinic schedule.

  • Appointments generally run 3 hours long and additional appointments may be needed to complete therapy
  • It is very important to call within 24 hours of the scheduled appointment to cancel or reschedule an appointment at 272-4106.
  • Office hours are Monday-Friday 8AM-4:30PM and the clinic is closed on Saturday and Sunday.

Faculty Clinic

Dental hygienists and dentists faculty members provide dental hygiene and dental services in the faculty clinic. Preventive, therapeutic, restorative and emergency dental care is available.

Please contact the clinic at 272-4106 for an appointment. Appointments are available Monday through Thursday, and select Fridays.

Services rendered by faculty are charged at prices comparable to the private sector. The faculty dental clinic accepts the UNM Delta Dental Insurance Plan and medicaid.

School-Based Clinics

In conjunction with the Division of Dental Services, the Division coordinates school-based dental clinics at Van Buren Middle School and will be adding clinics at Grant and Wilson Middle Schools in Albuquerque next year.

Carrie Tingley Dental Clinic

In conjunction with the Division of Dental Services, the Division operates a clinic at Carrie Tingley Hospital. The Carrie Tingley Dental Clinic is one of just two in the state that exclusively provide dental care to individuals with developmental disabilities. Its focus is individuals affected with complex musculoskeletal and orthopaedic conditions, rehabilitation needs, developmental issues, and long-term physical disabilities.
