Department of Dermatology

Research

The Department Library maintains 15 medical journal subscriptions and owns over 400 dermatology books as well as numerous lecture slides. Three of our faculty members are active in publishing in medical journals to further their scholarly endeavors. The residents are encouraged to publish and present their research in national forums, either medical journals or at local, regional, national, and international conferences. Each resident has a research rotation in their last two years of training.

Yubin Miao, Ph.D. has a dual appointment in the College of Pharmacy and Dermatology. Dr. Miao consults with the residents on pharmacological issues and collaborates with Dermatology faculty on basic science research studying drugs and skin issues.

The Dermatology faculty and resident physicians actively support the Steve Schiff Center for Skin Cancer Research. Dr. Padilla helps to coordinate and often presents at the annual conference sponsored by the Steve Schiff Center.

A third avenue to research utilized by the Dermatology Department is participation in clinical trials. Clinical trials are a valuable method to study the efficacy of new medications. The Department of Dermatology carefully investigates the offers to participate in clinical trials and chooses those which will potentially help the patients in New Mexico.
