Student Support Services

Resource Rooms
There are two resource rooms available for student use. The study/meeting room is
located in the Basic Medical Sciences Building (BMSB) in room B-53. This room is
accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week to students who have access to BMSB.
'Students must obtain the access code from the Office of Student Services, BMSB room 107.
The student organization room is located in BMSB room B-83. This room is available
to all medical school department students. The room is equipped with computer
workstations, printers, microwave oven, and telephone.
Peer Tutorial Service
The Peer Tutorial program is primarily for first-year students who may desire
additional assistance with specific subject areas. Medical students with expertise
in an academic area typically serve as tutors and are usually 3rd and 4th year
medical students. Medical School department students who wish to obtain a tutor
may contact the Office of Diversity.
Laptop Computer Loan Service
A limited number of laptop computers are available for student check-out.
They may be checked out for a period of one week. Students are not allowed to
load programs onto the laptops. Students should save documents to a diskette
rather than onto the hard drive. Medical school department students who would
like to check out a laptop computer may contact the Office of Diversity.
Resource Library
The resource library is located in room B-80 of the Basic Medical Sciences Building.
Materials are loaned for a two-week period. A variety of resources are available,
including basic science pre-test books, USMLE and MCAT study books, medical Spanish
dictionaries, and pre-medical planning guides.
Travel Assistance
Funds are made available on a reimbursement basis, according to University
business and accounting procedures. Reimbursable expenses generally include
airline tickets, ground travel expenses, hotel, and conference registration fees.
The Office of Diversity is required to report travel reimbursements to the
Student Financial Aid Office. Unfortunately, these monies are currently considered
income and therefore may affect student's eligibility for other financial aid.
Students who wish to seek funds should contact the Office of Diversity.
Students must request funds in advance, in writing. Some School of Medicine
students have been able to serve as officers for national organizations as a
result of this financial assistance.
