Joining Communities to Increase Access and Reduce Disparities
MCAT+ Program
MCAT+ is a six-week summer program for NM residents preparing to take the
MCAT and apply to medical school. MCAT+ students will attend a Kaplan MCAT
prep course. MCAT+ is not a residential program; however, on-campus housing
is available for those who need it. Students are required to attend all
classes and activities.
The program dates are June 9 - July 18, 2008.
The program curriculum includes the following:
- Orientation
- Comprehensive science review lectures that build mastery of key concepts.
- Time-tested, score-raising strategies in effective, small-group recitations.
- Get the realistic practice you need to maximize your MCAT score with at
least 5 proctored, full-length exams complete with performance analysis.
- Problem-Based Learning (UNM School of Medicine instructional model).
- Assistance with application, resume, and personal statement preparation.
- Pre-admissions Workshop for admission to health professions programs.
- Graduation Ceremony
Eligibility
- Minimum overall GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.
- Students must complete their medical school prerequisites, including
Calculus, Organic Chemistry, Physics, Anatomy & Physiology, and Biochemistry, before
the start of the program.
- Must be a New Mexico resident
Cost
There is no direct cost for participation in MCAT+. Students receive a daily stipend in order to pay for
housing. It is recommended that the remainder of the stipend be used for food and other incidental expenses.
