GUIDELINES FOR “FACULTY COMMENDATION IN RESEARCH”

1.      All deadlines must be met on time.  It is acceptable to have a national presentation scheduled by December 1, year 4, and delivered before graduation.

2.      The mentor must complete a written evaluation of the student’s scholarly research paper and the assigned reviewer must complete a written assessment of the student’s research paper. Both the mentor and the reviewer must recommend the student be considered for a “Faculty Commendation in Research”.

3.      The student’s research project should either be published or accepted for publication in a national peer-reviewed journal or be presented at a national meeting where abstracts are peer reviewed, such as the Western Student Medical Research Forum (WSMRF) of the American Federation for Clinical Research in Carmel, California.  The student should usually be designated as first or second author.  The Commendation will be a permanent letter in the student’s file and will be noted on the graduation program.
