Undergraduate Medical EducationStaff
Craig Timm, M.D., was appointed Associate Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in 2004. He is also Professor of Internal Medicine & Cardiology and began working at UNM SOM in 1991 following completion of his cardiology fellowship training. Dr. Timm completed undergraduate studies at Hamline University (St. Paul, Minnesota) and attended medical school at Stanford University. He did Internal Medicine and cardiology training at Boston City Hospital and Boston University followed by interventional cardiology fellowship at Rhode Island Hospital and Brown University SOM. He joined the UNM faculty in 1991. Since that time, he has been actively involved in medical education at all levels, from medical student through post-graduate education. Dr. Timm has extensive hands-on experience as an educator as well as having served in numerous administrative roles prior to becoming associate dean. He has received numerous teaching awards and honors, including two Khatali Teaching Awards (selected by graduating students), one for Clinical Science and one for Basic Science, Course Director of the Year, Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award, Teacher of the Year and Attending of the Year Award. In his role as Associate Dean, Dr. Timm has the responsibility of overseeing the undergraduate medical education program including curriculum, assessment, faculty development, and program evaluation. He also continues clinical work in general cardiology.
