College Credit: UNM students wishing to take courses for college credit should not register for classes here, but instead visit UNMs Office of the Registrar webpage.
The required 48 hours of refresher core content will be covered as 32 hours of online instruction and 16 hours of practical skills. The web based instruction is a self-paced learning management system with video or Powerpoint with audio instruction that updates EMS providers on the latest pre-hospital medical practice. Instructors include State and National leading experts in their field of study. The practical skills will be held at the EMS Academy for the dates listed below.
FR/BLS/ILS Combo Refresher
The required 24 hours of refresher core content will be covered as 16 hours of online instruction and 8 hours of practical skills. The web based instruction is a self-paced learning management system with video or Powerpoint with audio instruction that updates EMS providers on the latest pre-hospital medical practice. Wilderness FR/BLS/ILS Combo Refresher
This Wilderness Refresher is intended ONLY for those wishing to renew a Wilderness First Responder or Wilderness EMT certification. All participants must hold a current or recently expired Wilderness First Responder or Wilderness EMT Upgrade certification. The NM EMS Bureau required 24 hours of refresher core content will be covered as 16 hours of online instruction and 8 hours of outdoor, wilderness practical skills. First responders will complete all components of their renewal requirements upon completion of this course, and BLS/ILS responders will complete the Refresher Course component of their renewal requirements. ALL ONLINE COURSEWORK MUST BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO THE PRACTICAL SKILLS SESSION.EMS Academy and UNM West sites:
Wilderness First Responder and Wilderness EMT Upgrade
The Wilderness First Responder and Wilderness EMT-Upgrade course provides the online, classroom and outdoor skills instruction to prepare students to take immediate, lifesaving actions that may be encountered in remote wilderness environments when professional medical help may not be available. These dynamic learning environments ensure topics are thoroughly covered utilizing a variety of educational methods, and students are given the freedom to self-pace the majority of their learning schedules. Upon successful completion of this 11 week, 72 hour course, students will be awarded a Wilderness First Responder course completion certificate from the UNM EMS Academy and a WFR certification card valid for 2 years from the American Safety and Health Institute(ASHI). 40 hours of the course content will be covered online, and an additional 32 hours will consist of live practical sessions. Current EMT-Basics and EMT-Intermediates are also welcome to join, and will be awarded Wilderness EMT Upgrade certificates from ASHI upon successful completion. This course is open to all community and university members, and does not have any prerequisites.EMS Academy and UNM West sites:
