This program directs resources to outstanding junior faculty demonstrating the interest
and potential for careers in academic medicine. The COE provides financial support to selected junior
faculty coming from underrepresented minority groups (defined by HRSA) to increase the time available
for development of their research, writing, and teaching skills, and to promote the overall development
of their academic careers.
Eligibility:
-
Minority status as defined by the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration
(HRSA) guidelines, defined as underrepresented in the health professions and including African American,
Hispanic and Native American.

Approval of the SOM department making the academic appointment
-
Commitment of a senior faculty member to serve as a mentor
-
Agreement to fulfill evaluation and selected medical student mentoring requirements
In addition:
-
Academic strength as indicated by transcripts, evaluations, research, and references.

Individual initiative as indicated by career highlights and proposed research efforts and
interests.

Active mentorship of medical students

Participation in research, writing, and other workshops provided to enhance academic skills

She is currently an assistant professor of Family & Community
Medicine at UNMSOM and the Medical director at the Pueblo of Sandia
Clinic. Dr.Dine'Chacon is Director of the Center for Native American
