Recent FCM News & Noteworthy Items:

  • U.S. News & World Report recently announced “America’s Best Graduate Schools.”  The UNM School of Medicine ranks second in the nation for its Rural Medicine program - a ranking it has maintained since 1996.  This is our own Preceptorship Program – go team! The magazine also ranks the SOM 9th in Family Medicine - the 18th consecutive year the Family Medicine Program has placed in the top 10.

  • 50 Years of Family Medicine in New MexicoBook Produced by FCM Team Wins State History Award
    • "Fifty Years of Family Medicine in New Mexico: Remarkable Innovators and Recalcitrant Mules at the Ruidoso Rendezvous,"a family-medicine history book created by a core team in FCM’s Center for Community Partnerships has won a prestigious 2008 Heritage Preservation Award from the state of New Mexico. On May 2, 2008, Paul Akmajian (designer) and Michael Joe Dupont (author) traveled to Santa Fe to attend the award ceremony and were awarded plaques by NM's First Lady, Barbara Richardson.
  • Dermatology and Inpatient Educational Quizzes
    • The Derm Quiz is a monthly teaching case with photos and a clinical scenario. Dan Stulberg, MD has published the quiz since 1999. It has been used by practicing clinicians as well as distributed to residents and as a teaching tool in residency conferences.
    • The Inpatient Quiz is starting in April 2008 and is written by Dan Waldman, MD based on his teachings as a Family Medicine Hospitalist. It covers topics of interest in hospital medicine.
    • Both of these quizzes are open to subscription for healthcare providers to review or enhance the participant's clinical skills. They are focused on practical care and not designed to stump most subscribers.
