NARCH(Native American Research Centers for Health)

NARCH is an initiative of the Indian Health Service (IHS), in associated with the National Institutes of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS), to develop opportunities for conducting research and research training responsive to the needs of American Indian /Alaska.

 

Description:

The SOUTHERN COLORADO, NEW MEXICO (soCONM-NARCH), funded in 2005, is a working tribal /University Partnership that includes tribal leaders and community members from seven Tribes represented by the Albuquerque Area Indian Health Board(AAIHB) and researchers and senior administrators at the University Of New Mexico Sciences Center(UNMHSC) led by the Center for Native American Health(CNAH). In this partnership, multiple UNM programs with skills and experience in training and research assists CNAH to implement NARCH. During partnership meetings conducted since 1994, the University of New Mexico, Tribes, and Indian Health Service identified establishing tribally driven health research as top priority. The seven member Tribes of the AAIHB are Jicarilla Apache, Mescalero Apache, Ute Mountain Ute, Southern Ute, Ramah Band of Navajos, Alamo Band of Navajos, and To'Hajiilee Band of Navajos.
