Preceptorships

Logistics/ Support

The scheduling of all the above clinical experiences is done through the Preceptorship Office.

Approximately 4 weeks prior to the student's arrival, a reminder letter, including a photograph of the student, is mailed to the preceptor. A letter is also mailed to hospital administration where the preceptor has privileges, informing them that a student will be working under the preceptor's supervision. Information about professional liability coverage is also included. The Preceptorship Office handles any other necessary paperwork.

Medical students enrolled at the UNM school of Medicine and participating in the sponsored programs are covered in accordance with the provision of the NM Tort Claims Act, Section 41-4-1 et. Seq. NMSA 1978, as amended.

Each preceptor receives a volunteer faculty appointment, continuing medical education credit and preceptor training.
