The goal of this Community Engagement and Research Seminar series is to build the capacity of University and community researchers to effectively engage in collaborative research in community, clinical, and policy settings to reduce health disparities. Seminars will present partnership issues for each stage of the research process, with panels that include researcher and community member participation. You are invited to attend the entire series or to come to individual seminars.
Introduction to CBPR and Building Partnerships:
What kind of Research is appropriate for CBPR or Community Engaged Research? Who is the community? How do you negotiate effective and authentic partnerships?

Practical Applications of CBPR Principles to Clinical and Translational Research:
When and how can you engage the community and clinicians in instrument development, sample selection, recruitment, IRB benefit negotiation, and data collection?

A Case Example of Cancer: How do researchers engage communities in data analysis and interpretation? Who owns the data? How can researchers and communities collaborate in dissemination? and
Community-Partnered Participatory Research in Mental Health Services:
We describe the development of a multicenter consortium (Healthy African American Families with the UCLA-RAND Center for Advanced Mental Health Services) to support community-partnered health disparities research on mental health services and depression care.
