The mission of the Center for Participatory Research (CPR) is to support a collaborative environment within UNM that is aligned with core values of community partnership, equity, and participatory engagement in order to co-create new knowledge and translate existing knowledge to improve quality of life among New Mexico’s diverse populations.
The goals for the next five years are:
Institutionalization: Establish the Center for Participatory Research as a partner with the CTSC Community Engagement and Research unit to be a voice for the boundary spanning between academic and community research partners.
Promote and develop a CBPR portfolio in the institution.
Research Support and Technical Assistance: Provide technical assistance to faculty, students, and community constituents to increase CBPR grants submitted and awarded.
Improve translation and dissemination of research findings by contextualizing and applying knowledge towards community health improvement.
Educational: Develop future researchers with participatory research approaches, a critical reflective stance, and an orientation to work in interdisciplinary teams with academic and community partners.
Create distributed learning opportunities for community and academic partners, using web-based, telehealth, and other multiple site transmission technologies.
Practice/Service: Increase knowledge, awareness, and benefits of CBPR within New Mexico communities.
