Gallup Program in the Works:
MASTERS IN PUBLIC HEALTH PROGRAM

The development of the Gallup MPH Program is still under discussion with the Navajo Nation, I.H.S., the U.N.M. Gallup Branch, and the MPH Program at UNM. The earliest start date would be Fall 2009.To prepare for graduate study, students can and should consider the following five strategies:

  1. Take HCHS 293, Intro to Public Health, 1 credit, this Spring at the UNM Gallup Branch, scheduled from 9-12 on the following Fridays: 3/21, 3/28, 4/11, 4/18 & 4/25, taught by Lorenda Belone and Carmelita Sorrelman. It is an undergraduate seminar to introduce people to public health language, library research, and public health writing.
  2. Take college algebra (at the Gallup campus) in any semester to review and enhance quantitative skills for future graduate classes in epidemiology and statistics.
  3. Take professional writing (at the Gallup campus) in any semester to review and enhance their communication skills
  4. Study for the GRE and take the test
  5. Come into Albuquerque and take a course or two as a non-degree student.
